In December, 2015, President Obama signed the “Every Student Succeeds Act” (ESSA) which reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and replaces the No Child Left Behind Act. In response to a specific informational request from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, this technical assistance brief summarizes ESSA’s accountability requirements. It also provides brief overview of Pennsylvania’s current accountability system, a summary of current accountability measures used by states with an example of an accountability framework used by California CORE Districts. It also provides an overview of the requirements for evidence-based interventions with examples of Pennsylvania resources. It concludes with key considerations for states.
