Making ESSA Work for Early Learning in Your State

MACC@WestEd hosted a two-part, multi‐state roundtable titled “Making ESSA Work for Early Learning in Your State.”

During the first session on December 9th, 2016, teams from the Mid-Atlantic states met to work with each other and MACC@WestEd staff to identify aspects of ESSA that provide opportunities for building or expanding early learning. Aspects of ESSA were systematically examined for opportunities to support states’ early education goals and priorities.

During the second session on February 14th, 2017, teams focused on systematically identifying opportunities within ESSA that map to states’ strategic plans and current capacity. Teams identified these levers, developed strategies for bringing early childhood education into ESSA, and identified needs their states may have in implementation.
