Technical Assistance Brief: Massachusetts’ Approach to Improving Low-Performing Schools

This “Technical Assistance Brief: Case Study of Massachusetts” was prepared in response to an information request from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The case study includes an overview of Massachusetts approach to improving low-performing schools. It highlights key legislation, regulations and policies; provides a brief summary of Massachusetts’ accountability system; describes the state’s organization and supports for turning around the lowest performing districts and schools; and concludes with key considerations for states.
