Competencies for Strengthening Culturally Responsive Teaching Practice: Self-Assessment Tool
This tool was developed through the Mid-Atlantic Comprehensive Center (Macc@WestEd) using the competencies identified in the New America report by Jenny Muñiz, Culturally Responsive Teaching: A 50-State Survey of Teaching Standards (March 2019). It is designed for use by pre- and in-service teachers committed to developing and strengthening their culturally responsive teaching practice. For each of the eight competencies identified in the report, teachers are prompted to reflect on their current practice and identify evidence that they meet the competency. Teachers are then prompted to identify ways they will develop and strengthen their practice in relation to each competency. The self-reflection tool can also be used by teacher preparation program faculty and leaders and professional development leaders as a guide for strengthening their programs and professional learning offerings to ensure teachers have meaningful opportunities to develop competencies of culturally responsive practice.
