Technical Assistance Support
Ryan Miskell provides technical assistance support to the MACC@WestEd, and serves as a Research Associate in WestEd’s Learning Innovations program. His work involves evaluating programs implemented by schools, districts, states, and foundations to inform and improve education policy and program decisions. He also provides technical assistance and training to school leaders and teachers to build capacity and improve programs.
Miskell is proficient in quantitative and qualitative methodologies and conducts trainings, meetings, interviews, and focus groups for various projects. Recent work has included monitoring the U.S. Department of Education’s Charter School Program and Magnet School Assistance Program grantees, evaluations of the special education programs of two school districts in Maryland, an evaluation of Oklahoma’s school accountability system, and school culture and climate studies of two school districts in Oklahoma. Miskell received the Oklahoma Education Association Friend of Education Award for his contributions to the betterment of public education in 2014.
Prior to joining WestEd in 2015, Miskell was a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Oklahoma Center for Education Policy and a Teacher with Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma. Miskell taught 7th grade language arts for three years and served as an English Language Learner Specialist for three years.
He received a BA in Political Science from American University; an MEd in Education Administration, Curriculum, and Supervision from the University of Oklahoma; and a PhD in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Oklahoma. Miskell holds teacher certifications for secondary language arts and English language learner specialist and principal certifications for secondary and common core.
